Gauss meter
Western Instruments' W-FI Field Indicators are a line of economical, disposable or low-cost magnetic field indicators designed for use in magnetic powder inspection (MPI). These tools provide measurements in gauss and help inspectors check magnetization or demagnetization levels before and after the MPI process.
Key features and benefits
Four models available (W-FI-10, W-FI-20, W-FI-50, W-FI-100) with different measurement ranges (±10, ±20, ±50, ±100 gauss) for different inspection needs.
Calibrated during production in a homogeneous field (Helmholtz Coil) to ensure correct value upon delivery.
User-friendly alternative to more expensive digital magnetometers — quick visual indication of field strength without extensive training.
Suitable as a tool to confirm sufficient magnetic field before MPI testing (or that demagnetization has been completed).
Technical specifications
Model W-FI-10: ±10 gauss measuring range, intended for demagnetization.
Model W-FI-20: ±20 gauss measurement range, intended for checking residual fields on small parts.
Model W-FI-50: ±50 gauss measurement range, intended for checking strong residual fields.
Model W-FI-100: ±100 gauss measurement range, designed for very strong residual fields.
Areas of application
Check magnetic field before magnetic powder inspection (MPI) to ensure field strength and polarity are correct.
Verification of demagnetization processes — to ensure that residual fields are below acceptable limits.
Quick field inspection at production lines or inspection stations where digital measuring instruments are impractical.
Quality assurance and documentation in accordance with NDT procedures where magnetic fields must be documented.
