Magnet-Coil/Coil
Western Instruments' line of magnetizing and demagnetizing coils are designed for use in magnetic particle inspection (MPI/MT) and other magnetizing tasks in NDT. The product range includes several series covering everything from economical AC coils to heavy duty DC equipment for pre-weld demagnetization and downhole pipe certification. All coils are designed and manufactured in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Key features and benefits
Several series adapted to different needs:
WA Series – economical AC coil for basic inspection.
WP series – medium duty AC/DC coils with pulsed DC capability and reversible polarities.
WS series – powerful pulsating DC coils designed for drill pipes and high demands.
WD/WDV series – heavy duty coils for demagnetization (pre-weld, pipelines) with full wave DC and AC selection.Flexible connection and upgrade options such as variable DC, reversible polarization and foot switch for operation.
Designed for use in the field, inspection lines and industrial applications with demands for mobility and high performance.
Production in Canada ensures quality control and delivery to the global market.
Technical specifications
WA Series: ID sizes 8″ (203 mm), 10″ (254 mm), 12″ (305 mm), 14″ (356 mm). AC output over 4,000 Ampere turns at 115 V/60Hz, over 5,000 at 230V/50Hz. Weight e.g. WA-8 ≈6.8 kg.
WP Series: Same ID sizes as above, versions: AC-only, AC/DC (D-), AC/variable DC (DV-), AC/variable reversible DC (DVR-). DC outputs up to ~7,000 Ampere turns for certain models.
WD Series: Offered in large diameters (e.g. 8 5/8″ to 60″ / 219 mm to 1,524 mm) with full wave DC and AC options. Use for pre-weld demagnetization of pipes and structures.
Areas of application
Magnetic particle inspection (MPI/MT) of welds, pipes, shafts and components where magnetization is required to indicate defects.
Demagnetization of pipelines, flange connections, drilling equipment and other process equipment where residual magnetic fields must be removed before further work.
Field inspection and maintenance on oil & gas installations, pipelines, factories and the aerospace industry where a mobile magnetization solution is required.
Production lines and inspection workshops that require high repeatability and performance in magnetizing and demagnetizing tasks.
