WREN scanner

WREN scanner

WREN is a robust, handheld and easy-to-use TOFD scannerFRAME for inspection of welded joints. Its compact form factor makes it perfect for operators in difficult and confined inspection areas. It is suitable for pipes, pressure vessels, storage tanks and structures, from small pipe diameters to flat surfaces.

Key features and benefits

  • Easy handling: Designed for one-handed use, ideal for limited access and demanding field conditions.

  • Compact frame: Available in two lengths – short (approx. 135 mm) and long (approx. 235 mm) for flexible coverage.

  • Precise probe positioning: Holds one TOFD probe pair with spring-loaded gimbal mounting brackets, providing consistent contact and flexibility for uneven welds.

  • Solid data quality: Equipped with waterproof wheel-based encoder – high resolution, IP68 rated, and compatible with all TOFD instruments with encoder input.

  • Tool-free adjustment: The scanner frame can be quickly adjusted without tools for optimal function on different welds.

  • Close probe placement: WREN covers (TOFD wedges) in brass or high-temperature steel have reduced “land” so probes come closer to the weld jacket – providing better data accuracy in challenging areas.

Technical highlights

  • Lengths available: Approx. 135 mm (WREN 4) and approx. 235 mm (WREN 8)

  • Pipe coverage: Works on diameters from 2″ up to flat plate

  • Encoder: Floating wheel encoder, IP68 rated, high accuracy

  • Probe holder: Spring-loaded gimbal fixation for stable probe contact

  • Material choices: Brass or high-temp steel wedges for varying inspection needs

Areas of application

  • Ideal for field use when inspecting welds on pipes, pressure vessels and structural components.

  • Very well suited for confined areas where ergonomic and safe inspection is required.

  • Used in TOFD inspection of welds in pipes, tanks and structural elements for high precision and reliable data.
