Crack sizing bars

Crack sizing bars

Product overview

Crack Sizing Bars are metal rods made of carbon steel or stainless steel, with mechanically induced cracks extending across the entire 30 mm of the weld. They are used to calibrate and characterize cracks during ultrasonic testing (UT). The bars are available in various wall thicknesses (WT) and percentages of crack depth (TWH), and can be purchased individually or in sets of four samples.

Key features and benefits

  • Mechanical cracks over full length (30 mm), suitable for accurate sizing

  • Varying wall thicknesses: 12, 20, 25 or 30 mm

  • Percentage of through crack depth: typically 10%, 25%, 50% and 75%

  • Available as individual bars or complete sets with multiple options

  • Supplied with documentation: drawing, material certificate, QA report and consumption certificate

  • Used for UT calibration, API requirements and weld crack characterization

Areas of application

  • Calibration and verification of ultrasonic equipment in industry

  • Qualification of inspectors and internal controls

  • Comparison of coverage and sensitivity on test setups

  • Standardization of methods and reporting in welding inspection
