“Dissimilar Welds” are specially designed weld specimens where the materials being welded together are dissimilar — for example, carbon steel, stainless steel, or other alloys. Such specimens are among the most challenging to both manufacture and inspect with ultrasonics due to differences in material properties such as grain structure, sound velocity, and absorption.
